Outgoing Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i responded to allegations that the internal security ministry attempted to influence elections.
Matiang’i said the supreme court ruling did not find evidence that his ministry attempted to subvert the people’s will as claimed by IEBC and Ruto’s supporters. Instead, Matiang’i said his ministry tried to assist IEBC in performing its duties.
“Despite immense criticism, scorn, and false accusations of scheming to manipulate and interfere with the General Election, our sector put up a stellar and professional performance in supporting the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to conduct the General Election,” Matiang’i said.
He also thanked the outgoing president Uhuru Kenyatta for bestowing trust in him and extending him the privilege to serve in the Jubilee government.
Matiang'i was among the cabinet secretaries whose actions and speeches were perceived as antagonistic to Ruto's presidential campaign.
