Melissa Ngania Biography

Melissa Ng'ania is from Mt. Elgon, born in 1984 as the lastborn to a family of six children and growing up in Kitale.

She hails from a humble background and the Sabaot tribe of the larger Kalenjin family, a small and marginalized community in Kenya.

She made headlines as the youngest lawyer in the Supreme Court, representing Uhuru Kenyatta during the 2017 elections alongside Fred Ngatia and Abdulnassir Abdullahi.


Melissa Ngania Education

Ngania studied at Kitale Academy during her primary school years before joining Tororo Girls in Uganda for her O-Levels and A-Levels. 

She then joined Makerere University, where she studied law from 2005 - 2009, specializing in commercial, human rights and constitutional law.

According to the U.S. News & World Report, Makerere is the 8th best university in Africa and 569th globally.

Ng'ania returned to Kenya and joined the Kenya School of law, a mandatory step for practising law in Kenya

Ms. Ngania career and legal practice

Ms. Ngania joined Havi and company advocates in 2011 after admission to the bar, where she worked for 5 years as a litigation lawyer representing clients in court. 

She later joined Wairegi and Company associates in 2017. The firm is located at Development House at the intersection of Moi Avenue and Tom Mboya Street.

Her high-profile cases include defending President Uhuru Kenyatta at the Supreme court in 2017 and William Ruto at the same court in 2022.

She also represented Outdoor Advertising against the Mombasa County government after the latter pulled down advertising billboards.

She describes her professional skills as Legal Research, Legal Advice, Legal Writing, Corporate Law.

Melissa Ngania husband, relationship status

Melissa has not disclosed her relationship status, although she appeared with a wedding ring in 2022, suggesting that she is married. In 2017, she was not visibly wearing the wedding ring, suggesting a change in her relationship status during that period.

Life philosophy

Melissa told Citizen TV's Lilian Muli that she believes in giving her all regarding performance. The youthful lawyer also disclosed that she wakes up at 4 am every day except on Sundays when she arises at 6 am. 

She believes that if you devote all your energy to a task, someone will ultimately notice your talent and help you grow professionally. 

Ng'ania also believes strongly in networking saying that creating relationships could build your career in unexpected ways.

Melissa moments

Melissa became an internet sensation in 2017 after displaying her eloquence despite her young age. 

Lady Justice Njoki Ndung’u invited the "dot.com" to assist her colleague Senior Counsel Fred Ngatia after he referred to a Powerpoint presentation as a video and she corrected him.

In 2022, she stole the moment while litigating on behalf of Ruto, even quoting the Bible.

"We have been told a lot of fo stories in the 8 petitions," Ng'ania said. "In my concluding remark I will seek refuge in the holy book, Proverbs 10:19 says when words are many sin is not absent, but he who holds his tongue is wise."
