President William Ruto Names Ezekiel Machogu as the New Cabinet Secretary for Education

The hunt for the new education cabinet secretary ended after president William Ruto named Ezekiel Machogu as the new head of the ministry of education.

The new appointment was a blow to former Education CS George Magoha who expected to retain the position he served for just 3 years.

Machogu studied bachelor of arts in Nairobi University and had served as the member of parliament for Nyaribari Masaba on NAPK ticket from 2017 to 2022.

William Ruto promises a quick "solution" to CBC

The newly inaugurated Kenyan President William Ruto promised to resolve the CBC dilemma soon before the next transition in January 2023. He assured Kenyan parents that he was aware of their concerns regarding implementing the Competency-Based Curriculum.

Subsequently, He promised to undertake a public participation drive that was lacking in the previous implementation.

"We will collect from all players in line with the constitutional demand of public participation," Ruto said during the inauguration ceremony.

Various principals in Kenya Kwanza had promised to scrap the new education system.

Don't Mess with CBC, Magoha Warns

Magoha demands payment of contractors.

Magoha explained that contractors were not paid because the ministry of education was in financial transition, and a new government was taking over.

He urged the new government to fast-track contractors' payments to ensure the construction of 10,000 CBC classrooms continues.

Magoha issued these statements in Bugoma when inspecting the CBC classrooms in Bugoma. According to the former Education cabinet secretary, the classrooms will help the western region where the learners' population is high.

Magoha warns against scrapping CBC.

Magoha warned the incoming administration against canceling CBC, claiming it has created engagement between parents and children. Basing his opinion on a longstanding career in education, Magoha said

"leave CBC alone because, in my opinion, it has brought children back to their parents, there is a conversation between parents and children and that is going to have a very big impact on the way the children behave in future." - Magoha

No planned university strike.

Magoha allayed fears that there was a university strike planned. The former cabinet secretary said that a strike was within the law when organizers followed the right procedures, including notifying relevant authorities ahead of time.

However, Magoha said he had not received a formal notice of a planned university strike.

"If a strike is not protected, then you know what happens," he said.
