Makueni Members of the County Assembly Arrested for Corruption
The six requested refunds for a priavately funded trip while the co-accused clerk of the assembly enabled the alleged fraudulent payments
On Monday, six Makueni members of the country assembly MCAs were arrested and charged with corruption-related charges by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC). The six politicians will be arraigned
Authorities will arraign the six politicians before the Makueni Anti-Corruption Court on the eve of Madaraka Day, Tuesday, May 31, 2022.
The politicians allegedly demanded Sh175,018.50 for a privately-funded trip to Dubai. A then-serving member of parliament (MP), Hon. Dr. Patrick Musimba, fully funded the 7-day trip between April 14 to 21, 2014.
However, the MCAs requested a refund of Sh175,018.50 per diem from the county, allegedly related to the private trip to Dubai.
When the MCAs returned, they claimed and received Sh175,018.50 for each dim they did not deserve.
Names of MCAs accused of corruption in Makueni.
The accused MCAs are Cosmas Mutunga, Timothy Sirei Maneno, Bernard Wambua, Bensley Mwania, John Muli, and Bernard Muthoka.
They will be charged alongside the Clerk of Assembly, Edward Libendi, who enabled the allegedly fraudulent transactions.
